Les Traces no. II / Le Sacre du Printemps

When I go to see a new version of Sacre du Printemps I hope it will be inventive and surprising and will remain as unfading as spring itself. Léveillé accomplishes both.
La Presse de Montréal

After the greatly successful performances at TANZ Bremen 2005, Canadian choreographer Daniel Léveillé presents two more milestones of his minimalist, highly praised work.

Les Traces no. II is part of a series of six solo pieces in which Léveillé explores the repetition of movement. The piece is captivating in its powerful precision, clarity and concentration. Léveillé’s choreographic work relies on the presence of the body and on expression. In Le Sacre du Printemps, Léveillé does not try to reproduce the libretto, but seeks to interpret and commentate Stravinsky’s music through the means of dance. To Léveillé the body is not so much a site of narratives, as a site of energy.

“Movement and illusion slowly merge into a fascinating and strangely touching blend.” the New York Times writes about Demonstration No. I. With this piece, which is simultaneously theatre, dance and “happening”, Canadian dancer and performer Martin Bélanger artistically completes the evening.
